l have a 1996 dodge neon that is getting no spark and no fuel pressure. All the fuses are good. l suspect that it is a bad computer, however when l go ask the junkyard or auto parts store they need to know if the computer has the ''competition package''. l do not know how to tell if my car has this or not. The computers part number is R5269939. Does anyone know how to determine if this has the competition package? Are there any other things that could cause no fuel/no spark?
It is SOHC, however the competition package is available for both the DOHC and the SOHC. Is there a way to check the codes with a key on off on off on? It is hard to take it to autozone when it doesent move on its own.
the cam sensor was changed recently.
the fault codes are:
12 Battery Disconnected
55 Fault Display Complete
is it still possible that the computer is bad since it dosent show the pcm failure code.
i just put in a computer from the junkyard and now l have spark. But still no fuel pressure, l will look at that problem tomarrow.

you'd know if your car was the competition package, it would have ''sport'' logos and things of the like

l would check the cam sensor at the back of the cylinder head on if l was you before spending money on a new pcm for it,these cars were known to leak oill from the head gasket and the cam sensors,i think competetion package means double overhead cam,most of them were single overhead cam though,before you do anything else l would take it to auto zone to have a free scan done to it to check for codes first,good luck with.

you can check the codes by turning the key off and on three times and leaving it on the third time then count the flashes,this will tell you the code for it,that may be the only thing you can do if it wont start.i would check the cam sensor though it may be bad that will cause it not to get any spark at all,good luck,and l am the original dodge man,check my profile for date and compare it to the fake dodge man,

Did you also check the crank sensor. If PCM does not receive signal from it, it will shut down fuel and you will get no spark. Might also check ASD (Auto Shut Down) relay, if equipped. l have gotten bad cam sensors before also. Bought a brand new one from dealership that did not work.

The ACR ( competition package ) was available with the SOHC engine in the 4-door & with the DOHC with the 2-door. The easiest way to spot an ACR is if it had the sport bumper ( with the fog light holes ) but without the fog lights in them. Also, the side mouldings should be missing from the side of the car but many dealers ended up putting them on while the car was on the lot as they did not fully realize what the ACR package was.

The ''12'' code is more of a nuisance code & it does not really mean anything. Since u have both no fuel & no spark, I'd check the ASD relay as well as the PCM itself. The Neon, being a 1996, can only use a '96 PCM. See if u can borrow one from another car ( does not matter if it is a stick or an auto for testing purposes ) & see it if will start. If not, move on to the ASD relay. Good Luck.
