2002 dodge 4.7 back fire and blow up value cover into pieces
(dual overhead cam motor)
Motor stalled and back fired and just blew up the value cover into lots of pieces and blew oil dip stick out and oil cap
Has This Happen to any one else? And Dodge denies it they say it cannot happen

Well for one the 4.7L is not a DOHC, its a SOHC. For that kind of damage to happen, sounds like the motor itself blew up. Like the timing chain either snapped, or jumped. Causing the misfire, and damage it has caused.

l can see that dealer would deny.

Did you ever redline this engine, was it revved up standing still? That would do it, incuding the backfire which blew it to bits. l do not see this happening in a vehicle that is running. Starts with the timing gear, l did it once.

l saw a Chevy Astro do it recently. It had a lot of fuel vapors in the crankcase from the owner trying & trying to start it. The distributor cap was bad & cross-firing. My co-worker tried cranking it over & boom. It blew the valve cover gaskets out without damaging them & cracked the timing cover. Definitely does happen, dealers say a lot of things & they deny everything. Fuel & oxygen explode all the time, that is the reaction that makes the engine run! l would check the oil for fuel contamination & diagnose how it got in there & check for any ignition problems.

This also happen if a piston crown is broken. No compression, fuel enters and descends into crankcase, spark plug ignites. Bangggg!

this most likely happened because the engine blew up or fumes got in the valve cover and ignited somehow,i got one now in the shop that has holes in the valve cover because the engine blew,timing chain broke on this one and totally ruined the engine in it,that is possible but dodge wont take any liability for this happening they,ll blame it on poor maintenance,good luck.
