l wanna purchase a used 2001 Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7L V6. l can get an excellent deal on it and l love the car, however l simply wo not own a car with such a problematic engine.
What would l expect to pay as far as labor to buy a used 3.5L (from the R/T or Chrysler) and have it swapped out by a mechanic?
And finally, once we get past that, would the standard transmission hold up well enough?

Not that simple these days, you have the mechanical aspect of mating the engine to a front wheel drive trans axle. Secondly, the wiring computer issues. It would be much less problematic to get the car with the engine you want, more than likely less costly too. Right up to 2002 the optional engine was 3.2 L, not the 3.5 L.

Like you were told, it most likely be more trouble than it is worth, but l do not know. l do know that you would have to change wiring and probably computer at least. You might be also looking at changing the transaxle, but l do not know the bolt patterns on the newer Chryslers. Good Luck.

the cost on doing this is a lot greater than people think it is & once u get started in to doing it,you have to finish or u loose what u have invested in it,really it is not worth it,because l have done two of those before & the cost ran well over 2 thousand bucks & that was more than the car was worth,their nice when u get them done,but most people do not realize how much is involved in doing this,the transmission will hold up ,but that is the least of ur problems once u start doing all this,think,about it before u start it.good luck.
