It is making clunking noises and bucks like a wild bronco!LOLl guess it is not really funny.It is an automatic but if you put it in 3rd gear it does not do it.If you just put it in drive you really have to gas it to make it go, it makes all kind of noise when you do this, and as soon as you let off the accelerator it comes to a halt, quick! Reverse does not work so well either, it makes the same clunking noises.
Any ideas?l sure hope it is something simple!

it is not something simple. these vans had issues with their trans, especially as it related to the OD on them. you probably need a rebuild or replacement.

personally, from what i've seen of the caravan is of those years, i'd be thinking replacement. of the whole van.

l had a 99 caravan with a similar problem. Had the tans rebuilt for $1000 or so and sold the dame thing for 2700$.
start shopping for something else.

My husband said it is most likly the clutches in the tranny but if you drove it that way alot the gears are probably gone to rebuild will cost you 700 try a junk yard pull a tranny for about 200 dollers buy clutches 75 dollers replace the clutches use lucus trans fluid mixed with dexron 3 trans fluid. this is the best way to save money and to assure quality

best advice l can give you on that one is take it and let a transmission shop test drive it ,they do not charge for this and they can tell you what its doing,those are very complicated transmissions,and hard to work on,they can tell you in a few minutes what the problem may be on it,good luck.

It is possible that the rear differential have suffered some type of failure It is equipped with an overrunning clutch assemble that can fail, or cause similar conditions. . If the transmission fluid is clear, bright, & correct level, have any diagnostic codes read & corrected, from TCM (Transmission Control Module)
If no problems r detected in the transaxle, then look at the differential (rear of vehicle) & the PTU (power takeoff unit) attached to transaxle, (similar to a transfer case on a 4x4), for problems.
