also what is the best quality rebuild kit for 4x4?
My trans. seams to be eating clutch, fluid is brown and burnt any help or exp would be appreciated

there was not really any major problems with the 727 tranny ,i have two of them in different cars and neither one has given any problems,the best rebuild kits l have bought came from jegs performance products,they are made by pro master is the one l used,but there is better ones on the market since l rebuilt these,look on this site they have the updated kits for those also,good luck,,http://jegs.com/

Most common thing l see from the 727 are front oil pump bushings worm and torque converter hub wear. Also it is common to see the low /reverse band strut break due to heavy loads while backing up. Shift shaft wear due to age, mileage causing fluid leaks is also common.
Other than running low on fluid and burning drive clutches and seals from leaks, they tend to be very strong, reliable transmissions, known for there reliability.
