Since it is almost impossible to get a 1970s Dodge Challenger in good shape nowadays l have started to consider buying a 2009 Dodge Challenger. However, l do not have enough money and dislike making monthly payments. So my question is this, how much will a Challenger R/T cost in ten years?What about the SRT8? And when will the value of these vehicles go below $8k?

l know a little about classic cars & collecting cars. Who know what the resale of a 2008 Challenger R/T or SRT8 will be in 'XX' years. You can look at normal depreciation. There is nothing rare about a 2008 Challenger unless they just stop making them, than they will be rare ore will be 40 years down the road. $8K? Who knows but it will be closer to $16k than $8k in 10 years. It is a $30,000 car new.

Keep in mind u will be making a LOT more money in 10 years.

l suspect if its in good shape it will go for about half, $15,000. It is like a Porsche 911. A nice late model 1998 911 goes for about +$30k, about half the original price. However they got popular for a while & the price went up 10%. Now with gas prices the price may have gone down again. Also milage & condition is a big player.

If u saved $100 a month with modest interest u would have well over $15k in 10 years. SAVE.

l suspect they will make & sell a lot of them (may be not with gas prices) between now & 10 years. l doubt they will have collector car status at least in the near term, unless they stop production after 2009 for some reason. That reason may be low sales due to the 15/23 MPG gas burn.

IF YOU WANT A COLLECTOR CAR THAT HOLDS VALUE, THAN BUY AN ORIGINAL 1970 is SOMETHING Challenger. The down side is u r not going to drive collector cars daily. Some owners drive collectables in a limited way, however as ur only mode of transport, parking at school, store, on the street.forget it. Not good for a valuable investment. Get a beater for the daily driver.

l can not think of any modern car (less than 10 years) that has true collector car status, except for example some super rare sport car (Italian).

In 10 yrs ur financial situation will be better & if u paid yourself a ''car payment'' each month starting now, in 5 yrs u will have enough money to buy a 2012 Challenger. However if gas is $8 a gallon u may not want to buy one?

So u have a choice buy a car with in ur means, save & make a lot more income & last, a Loan. l LIKE YOUR COMMITMENT NOT TO PAY CAR NOTES. l always buy my cars paid in full, unless they r giving away 0% APR or something low, which they do for people with good credit.

Frankly if u can not afford the car, the gas & insurance may kill you. (If u r male & young u will pay through the nose.) It is no fun owning something u really can not afford. You relize it will get less than 20 mpg aveage MPG! So at $4/gal that is $40 to go 200 miles (if mostly highway). Most people drive 200 a week at least.

It is city rating is ONLY 15/16 MPG! The highway is a 23 mpg. l can tell u will not get near 23 mpg. My guess is about 19 mpg average. My 911 gets about that or a tad more. However the 911 is for fun not running errands.

Your idea of waiting is good. Just save money & consider buying a used one in 5 years. By then there may be a better car that turns u on.

l agree with the answerer above that it is impossible to predict what a car will be worth in XX years

l would say of you wait 5 years you be able to get one a 1/3 of the new price - assuming it is in great shape

The price of a used car depends on demand, condition, and mileage. Demand will depend on things like gas prices and reliability. Basically who knows.
