when l start up my 1994 caravan and shift to drive from park there is a chattering sound l here and then sometimes right before l stop at a stop sign l hear it again what is this problem

That is normal for a chrysler transmission, it is not a problem.

It could be but if it is before you stop then it might be something wrong with you axle or brakes when l use to stop in my grand prix l had to get 1 part of the axle repaired so i'm not sure but l would look into it

1st look at your tranny fluid level it maybe low. The other possibility is that it maybe some sort of heat shielding coming loose that is rattled when the tranny is used.

That noise is common to all Electronic Automatic Transaxles in Chrysler built vehicles, and is completely normal. It originates from the solenoid pack, which is mounted on the front side of the transaxle case, near the dipstick tube opening. The noise is actually the solenoid shift valves ''ratcheting'' or operating. Some units are silenced by protective covers, but all make some degree of noise when operating. Newer models have quieter operation.

as long as its shifting right your fine with it ,that was a common thing for the electronic transmissions to do,it gets kind of annoying though sometimes,and the more attention you pay to it the louder it will seem to get,but it should be ok,i own a dodge stratus that does this,when l first got it though it annoyed me ,but after a while you get use to it,good luck.
