Which do you think is better and why? I'd go for the 440, because they're cheaper and easier to find.

Stock 440 is 375 hp. Stock 426 Hemi is 425 hp, according to Mopar.

In reality 440 is about 400 hp and 426 is about 500 hp.

if you could put a hemi head on a 440 block you would have it made.

Back in the day, the 440 was the preferred engine for street use because it tended to hold its tune better than the somewhat touchy 426 hemi.

If you have a choice, it is no comparison! Hemi every time. If you want to rev a 440, it has to be a six-pak to have the good internals.

l like the 440 Magnum better as a whole despite the Hemi is fame & glorification. The 440 Magnum actually makes just as much torque as a 426 Hemi & at a lower rpm. Plus, where can any regular guy find a 426 Hemi? You can not just pull them out of junkyards! A new Mopar Performance 426 crate Hemi costs more than $14,000. For that kind of money u could buy a 440 Magnum block, stroke it to 500ci & get 600+ horsepower with free flowing heads & a roller cam.

The 426 Hemi is just a classic bragging rights engine!

id go with the 440 because their easier to find and can be built up a lot farther on horse power and a lot easier to work on,back when we use to race all the time we all preferred the 440 because parts was so easy to come by,and we often beat a few hemi,s also,the 440 is and will remain one of dodges best engines ever built,good luck.
