When l am accelerating the car reves loud and the rpms keep going up. When l take my foot off the gas petal it rapidly slows down. What can be the problem?

the tranny wont shift into a higher gear to drop the rpms and continue acceleration. its 2nd or 3rd gear depending on the tranny.

Sounds like your not going into overdrive.Theirs an electric switch on the transmission. l forget what its called.It locks out your torque converter giving you overdrive.It could be bad,but it should not keep you at 55.You may have additional transmission problems.

time for a visit to the tranny shop. they will give you a free estimation on how much repairs will cost and do it soon while your still moving or a tow truck will be in your immediate future

the transmission is either slipping on it or its going in to limp mode or its really low on fluid,if you,ll take it by any transmission shop they will test drive it and give you a diagnoses on what it might be and what the cost might be to repair it,that is better than driving it until it goes out,good luck and happy holidays,to you.

These grand caravan is were notorius for transmission problems, l now cause l had a 1994? and l all but give it away.
